From the Pastor
September 5, 2008
Author and former pastor, Gordon MacDonald, has written a new book, Who Stole My Church? He offers wisdom and solutions to a challenging trend in the United States; the declining number of people attending church. Many church leaders are asking the question why and reacting to the problem in a variety of ways. MacDonald proposes a one-word solution; recognition. We must recognize and remember who the church really belongs to! It is not our church, but God's.
The Apostle Paul reminded the leaders of the Ephesian Church of this reality:Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock, of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the Church of God, which He bought with his own blood (Acts 20:28).
The church belongs to God. We are servants of the King and a part of a greater, eternal movement. Windermere Community Church belongs to God--we know this. I believe this recogniton keeps us humble and focused. We are growing rapidly (20 new members in August), and greater growth is coming in the near future.
Harvest 2010 is a three-year spiritual journey designed to help us get ready to be used by God! The rest of 2008 will focus on Preparing for the Harvest. Our focus will be on preparing our individual lives and our church to be used by God. We will clarify the vision of Windermere Community Church, learn and practice the spiritual disciplines, and deepen our commitment to genuine relationships.
For each of us individuals, it will be a time when we grow in the following ways:
- Take the next step in your spiritual maturity (Discipleship).
- Connect with a group of fellow believers in a Small Group (Fellowship).
- Share the Good News of Jesus with a friend who is lost (Evangelism).
- Live a life of generosity (Stewardship).
- Use your talents and gifts inside and/or outside of the church to impact people (Service/Ministry).
- Go on an international missions trip and/or serve with one of our local strategic community mission partners (Missions).
This weekend we expand the ministry and outreach of Windermere Community Church. We are excited about The Ascent:
- The Ascent is our new Saturday night service. We know that many people work on Sundays, and Saturday night is a great option for them.
- We are targeting the unchurched, which will impact the worship style.
- We are offering age-related ministries, and opportunities for growth and service.
- We believe Saturday night is essential to our plan to impact Central Florida.
These are exciting days. Let's get ready for the Harvest together!!

Building God's Family
Thank you for your response to Building Gods Family.
You prayed, listened, and followed God in this financial opportunity. Remember,
one of our goals is building a new childrens education building.
Our First Fruits Goal $ 200,000.00
First Fruits Gifts $ 380,403.38
Our 3-year Pledge Goal $ 2,000,000.00
Our Pledges to date $ 2,068,996.00
As move forward, pledges continue to come in weekly. Others are giving unpledged
financial gifts. Thank you!
A part of our scriptural theme for Building Gods Family is found in Ephesians
2:22. Paul wrote, "And in him you too are being built together to become
a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit."
Once again, we are grateful that God is building us and using His church and
people to impact the lives of others, our community and the world.
You can still give!
It's not too late! There are commitment cards available at the church office
and at our Welcome Center. Do your part to Build God's Family!
